Graduation Year Class of 1989
Date of Passing May 17, 2018
About Carrey Robinson Dewey, 46, passed away of ALS on May 17, 2018 in Louisville. Born in Nashville, TN she was an alumni of Oldham County High School Class of 1989 (Buckner, KY), a graduate of the University of Louisville where she received a B.A. in Education in 1995 and later a M.A.T. degree in 2001. She was a teacher for 10 years at Newburg Middle School before shifting careers to be a stay-at-home-mom. She was a parishioner of both Epiphany Catholic Church and St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen McGuire Robinson and brother, Christopher Kerry Robinson.
She is survived by her husband, James Eric Dewey; children, Ian, AnneMarie, and Colleen Dewey; father, Joseph Patrick Robinson; brother, Ryan McGuire Robinson (Michelle); sister, Elizabeth Robinson Sorg (Michael); sister-in-law, Eva Robinson; and four nephews and one niece.
Carrey was a very active member of Stopher Elementary PTA. She loved to give and gift to others in anyway she could. Organizing was a passion and she led Stopher to record Dare To Care donations for several years. Diagnosed in June of 2014 with ALS, she was an authentic and honest advocator and educator for ALS. She made it her mission through her Facebook Page, Team Dewey Kickin' ALS, to convey to the world what ALS looked like from the inside. She was fearless in her openness and fought the disease with every ounce of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual strength she had.
When diagnosed nearly four years ago, Carrey made a "bucket list" of places she wanted to visit and experiences she wanted to share with her family. Completing her list, she remained committed to showing her family her great love for them on a daily basis in ways large and small.
Carrey was a social butterfly and was affectionately known as "Care Bear" to many of her friends, and equally loved to designate nicknames to others. She was passionate about entertaining, and did so with meticulous attention to detail, creating a beautiful home with classic yet comfortable style-and relished shopping for a great bargain!
The Dewey family would like to graciously thank all of Team Dewey and Carrey Care for putting "faith into action" and their unfailing commitment and support through her brave and remarkable journey.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday May 21, 2018, at Epiphany Catholic Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road. Memorial Visitation was from 11-7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home East Louisville, 12900 Shelbyville Rd.
