Favorite School Memory Band trip to Colorado was a highlight. Making All District Band for 4 years and All County Band was created my Jr year and both of those were very challenging. I loved Marching Band and being a Drum Major my Jr and Sr years, and being the Head Drum Major my Sr Jr was both challenging and exciting. I loved playing the Baritone for the 4 years, 2 in the Marching Band and 4 in the Orchestra, and being 1st Chair for 3 years was exciting. I even made the Stage Band for my Jr and Sr years, playing the Valve Trombone, and that was very challenging as that was not the main instrument I learned to play. Playing at home Basketball games and playing at the JH and other places and District and State contests in all 3 Bands was very challenging and fun. Being in the OHS Band during the 4 years I went to OHS meant being in 1 of the best HS Band programs in the State, vying for many titles and winning many in the State and even being the best in our classification in Parade and Field (Half Time show) in Canon City Colorado. Marching in home and away Football games was something every Band member loved and travelling to March in Parades was just as exciting. Being in a very large award winning HS Band meant, that when the Big Red Music Machine, the Okmulgee High School Band arrived....everyone knew it, because of our great winning reputation! It was so fun to watch people's mouths fall open when they saw the fleet of yellow school busses with the OHS Band in them, pull into town or the Football Stadiums. It was a privilege to represent OHS in the Band, where ever we went and having Mr. John Samples as our Band Director for those 4 years I was in the Band was the icing on the cake. He was the best Band Director not only in the State but, everywhere we went as well. He was loved by many and for m...(read more)
