About Me | Sergeant Major Hoskins (USMC Retired) Sergeant Major Hoskins was born on 10 August 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 23 January 1983, attending Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California. Upon completion of Recruit Training, he received training at the Infantry Training School (ITS) at Camp Pendleton California where he received the MOS 0351 Anti-Tank Assaultman using the M202, Multi-Rocket Flame Thrower. Following ITS, Sergeant Major Hoskins reported to Sea School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and upon graduation he was attached to the USS Hunley (AS-31) for Sea Duty, home ported in Holy Loch Scotland. In January 1986, Sergeant Major Hoskins reported to Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion 5th Marines at Camp Pendleton. He served as a Gunner then Squad Leader for the Dragon’s Platoon and participated in various field training exercises including unit deployments to Honduras, Panama, Okinawa and South Korea. In March 1990, Sergeant Major Hoskins received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and upon graduation was assigned to Company G. He served as a Junior Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In February 1992, he was selected to participate as an “Adviser” to the Royal Saudi Marine Corps and was transferred to Saudi Arabia. In July 1992, Sergeant Major Hoskins was reassigned to 2nd Battalion 5th Marines for a second tour. He served as Section Leader and Platoon Sergeant for Weapons Company and Company G. He participated in one unit deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit participating in “OPERATION RESTORE HOPE” Somalia, “OPERATION CONTINUTED HOPE” Somalia and “OPERATION DISTANT RUNNER” a Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) in Bujumbura, Burundi. His second unit deployment was with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, deploying to South Korea, Okinawa, and China. In October 1996, Sergeant Major Hoskins received orders to Drill Instructor Duty Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for a second tour and was assigned to Company F. He served as a Junior Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and a Chief Drill Instructor. In January 1998 he was assigned to Drill Instructor School and served as the School’s Drill Master until December 1999. In January 2000, Sergeant Major Hoskins reported to 1st Battalion 1st Marines and served as a Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company A. In May 2001, he was reassigned to 1st Battalion 4th Marines and served as the First Sergeant for Company B and Weapons Company. He participated in a 7-month deployment as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in Operation Enduring Freedom, supporting “OPERATION ANACONDA” in Afghanistan. In January 2003, he deployed and participated in a 10-month deployment, participation in “OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM” AND “PHASE IV OPERATIONS in Iraq.” In January 2004, Sergeant Major Hoskins was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for a third tour where he served as First Sergeant Company K, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. Promoted to Sergeant Major January 2005, Sergeant Major Hoskins was assigned to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major. In May 2006, Sergeant Major Hoskins was reassigned to Support Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major. On 27 June 2007, Sergeant Major Hoskins was transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Hoskins personal decorations include the Legion Of Merit Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal w/combat V and 1 gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy Achievement Medal w/combat V and 2 gold stars in lieu of third award and the Combat Action Ribbon. Sergeant Major Hoskins has an Associate Degree with Central Texas University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Criminal Justice where he graduated with distinction; Summa Cum Laude.
