| About Me | Matt Jenkins is a native of the Great State of Georgia. He graduated from Oconee County High School in June of 1993. Following High School Matt worked for Harris Teeter and Publix Supermarkets as a clerk. From 1996-1998 he attended Truett McConnell and Piedmont College in North Georgia, at which time he began to take class in Political Science. In 1998 Matt was part of the event team for then Congressman Saxby Chambliss’s successful reelection campaign. In May of 1999 he joined the United States Navy. In August of 1999 Matt attended Personnelman Apprentice School at Naval Technical Training School Meridian, MS. His first duty assignment was onboard USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY (FFG 49) home ported at Naval Station Mayport, FL in November 1999. While onboard (FFG 49) he was advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class and was awarded Junior Sailor of the Quarter. In addition he served on the at sea fire party team and was the acting Personnel Officer. In November of 2003 he transferred to Personnel Support Detachment Naval Submarine Base Kingsbay, Georgia where he was advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class. While at Kingsbay he was awarded Sailor of Quarter(2) and also served as the Vice President of Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR). In August of 2007, he assumed the duties as Leading Petty Officer (LPO) for the administrative department of Strike Fighter Squadron 137 home ported at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. While in Lemoore he was responsible for 28 sailors as the LPO. His deployments are as follows: November 1999-February 2000 (South America), June 2001-October 2001 (UNITAS South America), June 2003-November 2003 (UNITAS South America) March 2008-October 2008 (Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraq Freedom) In August of 2010 Matt began classes at The University of Alabama. While at Alabama he successfully part of a team of students who secured funding for a Military and Veterans Affairs Center on Campus as Vice President of Campus Veterans Association. In addition he currently serves as Director of Non-Traditional Students for the Student Government Association on campus. He will graduate in May of 2013 with BA in Political Science and a Minor in History. From January of 2012 to March of 2012 he served as campaign scheduler and assistant political advisor for Phil Norris for Congress. In addition from April of 2012 to June of 2012 he served as a political advisor for Don Chamberlain for Congress. Matt served as the Senior Political Advisor and Campaign Strategist for Stanley Mack for Congress from November 2012 to March of 2013. Currently Matt is working with a core group of people on a project to benefit the infrastructure of the Republican Party. Matt’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), Navy Good Conduct Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation with ‘O’ Device, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon(4), Navy Pistol Shot Ribbon, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. Matt is married to the former Danielle Covell of Petaluma, CA. Together they have two wonderful children, Elizabeth and Thomas. In addition Matt is an active member of the West Alabama Republican Assembly and West Alabama Young Republicans.
