It was my senior year (1964) and the school rings had just been given out at the start of the school day. I had gym class in the morning (no jewelry was allowed in class) so I placed my ring in a sock that was then placed inside my shoe and stored in the top part of my gym locker. Unfortunately, I did not lock it up. It never even occurred to me not to trust a classmate. After class was over, I took out the shoe and was aghast to find out that someone had taken it! I simply couldn't believe it. When I returned home I was very upset and conveyed to my mother what had occurred. Mom was very understanding, but that was it--I'd saved all my summer money for that ring--no other would be forthcoming. I was crushed. A very sad life-long lesson about human nature and trust was learned as a result. I never saw it again. Aside from the fact that it was a 1964 Oceanside High School ring, the only other identifying marks are my initials LRE. If anyone has found this ring, or knows of its whereabouts, please contact me (or, better yet, send it--no questions asked) at this address:
Lawrence Etri, 6 Beal Court, Huntington, NY 11743. I would greatly appreciate it, and my faith in human nature will be restored.
