About	Also know as Jack or Oyster, he passed away Saturday, June 30th of Lymphnoma. Dad and his first love Rose (Molino) were born and raised in Oceanside, he taught us all to love and respect family first. Dad was a Nassau County Police Officer for 20 years, 15 of it as a Marine Bureau cop. After which he picked up his fishing hobby and made it a business. If you were ever on Woodcleff Canal restaurants and enjoyed those big delicious soft-shelled crabs, thank Dad, he cultivated them and supplied most of the restaurants on the Nautical mile and many other restaurants all over Long Island. He loved the sea and taught the five us and our friends to enjoy it as well. He is out there now, watching over all of us and his beloved bay. He is survived by his wife Rose,children, John VanHouten, Jr (class of 73); Rose VanHouten Duemig (Class of 75); Raymond Van Houten (class of 81), Richard Van Houten (Class of 80) and Michael Van Houten (class of 85).as well as several Grandchildren and great grandchildren.
