Favorite School Memory | hanging out with friends. I am glad Oakland High had diversity of students.. As I am more reflective as I got older, I am very grateful to my teachers, coaches, administrators, counselors, classmates, and all who helped make my HS experience enjoyable. I hear remarks that the public school systems are in disarray, but from my personal experience, I would not trade my public school upbringing. I am a proud member of Oakland's public school system.. I would also like to thank members of OHS 1975 who have helped organize class reunions over the years. I have not attended any, but!!! appreciate those who have stepped forward and organized them. The recent reu...(read more) |
About Me | there is similar Alumni site that I have a profile on, so, I will copy/paste what I wrote there/here: "I really enjoyed my Oakland High School days.. 1973 to 1975. I think OHS had such a diverse mix of ethnic groups and unity for school/class. Sure, each school has different groups within the school but from what I experienced, a nice harmony and respect.. (and we were all teenagers so that is not that easy) 45 years since we all attended OHS, and hope all classmates are "doing good" Again, I have fond memories of my OHS days and all my classmates being part of the class of 1975. I enjoyed going to class, many of the teacher/coaches I had in HS.. I now wonder how they are all doing or if they are still living... here we are, 45 years since we graduated from OHS, how time does go by fast... After HS, I lost touch with most of my classmates at OHS... this was pre internet, pre FB.. so, you really not sure how anyone has done, or what they are doing.. glad there has been various HS reunions over the years, but for this reason and that, I have missed each one.. but yes, I do have fond memories of my HS years at OHS and all the classmates, teachers and all.... it was a cool place to go to HS. After graduating from OHS, I went to Cal Berkeley and graduated there in 1979. Been working Silicon Valley in Santa Clara for close to 40 years now.. (not really Silicon Valley anymore) . luckily I have a pretty easy going life with no major ups or downs... As my 2 kids have become adults, I still try to help out with a basketball youth organization that is based in the East Bay: For many years, never thought much about OHS, classmates, teachers, coaches, etc.. but more recently as I got older (now in 60 as we all are) much more graditute to teachers, coaches, classmates, of the enjoyable experience I had at OHS. (Jr HS for that matter). As we graduated in 1975, the Military draft and Vietnam war ended... (whew) sure, I would have gotten a draft deferment to go to college...but still, glad both ended irrespective.. I see life broken up into 4 quadrants plus O/T using a basketball game metaphor. 1 to 19, 20 to 39, 40 to 59, 60 to 79 and 80 and above= O/T. so, at 63, early stages of 4th quarter... very grateful how my life has treated me so far, and trying to keep steering straight... again, hope same is true for all my OHS classmates.. I feel whatever one is able to achieve in one's adulthood, much of the guidance is set up in the formative teenage years. Sure, one's achievements are attained in large part by one's merit/skills, but one should never underestimate the good fortune of good guidance/mentor-ship as one proceeds in life. I am grateful for all those who guided me, were my role models, guiding lights that helped me proceed forward.. Heck, as GSW fan in HS, got to see the 1975 team win a championship... then 40 years of GSW teams not very good, bad draft picks, trades, but able to see the great GSW run that brought Oakland 3 Rings in 5 years... that was a nice run to watch.. and we will see if they can regroup in 2020/21 and be contender again... Here we are in 2020 and Covid with us.. I never seen anything like this in my lifetime, please stay as safe as you can.. Let's all try to get to summer 2021 when if all goes well, we can get this in our rear view mirror. I found my 1974 and 1975 OHS yearbooks. If you need scans of your class picture, etc, send me a note and I will look your name up (what pages you are on) and scan them and send to you. The 1973 yearbook is already on line ...(read more) |
