Cpl. Robert B. Markum, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony S. Markum, has been killed in Vietnam, according to word received Wednesday by his parents. He was in the Marine Corps.

Cpl. Markum was wounded May 9 in Que Nang Province and was hospitalized at Da Nang. He died November 17, 1968.

Robert was a career soldier, having enlisted in the Marines, July 17, 1967. He obtained his boot training at Parris Island, S.C. and Camp Lejeune, N.C. He left a year ago for Vietnam after being stationed at Camp Pendleton, C.A.

Robert's parents said they had expected their son to return to Norfolk, January 17, 1969.

Robert was graduated from Norwood Norfolk Central School in 1967. He was a member of the varsity baseball, basketball and cross country teams. Robert was also active in class activities.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Michael and Steve; a sister, Laurie; his maternal grandfather, George Bailey; and his paternal grandfather, John Markum.

He was born in Potsdam, April 26, 1949, a son of Anthony and Mary Bailey Markum.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation.

Burial was made in the Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk, N.Y.
