About Age 59 - Arlan J. "A.J." O'Connor, 59, died Tuesday in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse. Mr. O'Connor had been a supervisor of parking and transit services for Syracuse University since 1989. Arlan previously worked for Carrier Corp., Syracuse, for 20 years, was a member of the North Syracuse Police Department in the 1970s and was a special deputy with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of American Legion Post 1832, Mattydale, and the First United Methodist churches of Liverpool and Norfolk. A life member of the National Rifle Association and scoutmaster for 10 years of Boy Scout Troop 127, North Syracuse. Born May 24, 1943, in Norfolk, son of Emmett and Vera Gonyeau O'Connor, he graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1963 and from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department Police Academy, Syracuse. A Navy veteran, he served in communications on an aircraft carrier from October 1963 to October 1966. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, the former Diane C. Warner; a daughter, Carrie A. O'Connor, and a son, Michael A. O'Connor, and two sisters, Lynn Plumb and Patsy Colbert. A brother, Richard, died before him. The funeral was held at Fergerson Funeral Home, North Syracuse, with the Rev. Richard Lenz officiating. Spring burial was made in Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk.
