About Age 64 - Poquoson - Maryellen "Petey" Husson, 64, died on Thursday, July 9, 2009, from complications of Multiple Systems Atrophy, a degenerative neurological disease. She had a strong and abiding love for the Lord and was a devoted military wife. She was loved by many and always worried more about the effect of her illness on others than on herself. Her philosophy of life can be best reflected by the Gaelic adage: "Dance as though no one is watching you. Love as though you have never loved before. Sing as though no one can hear you. Live as though heaven is on earth." Petey was born in Norwood, NY and knew in second grade that she wanted to be a teacher. After college, she taught briefly before giving her love and care to her children until 1990, when she returned to teaching music in Hampton, VA. She was loved by all the elementary students that she influenced with her desire for learning. She reluctantly retired in 2008 after realizing that she could not carry on with the disability. She loved to dance and tried to carry on dancing right up until her death. She was also a passionate amateur photographer and leaves the world with hundreds of beautiful photo. She sang with the choir at St Kateri Kekakwitha Church every week. Petey was pre-ceeded in death by first husband Roy W. Westerfield; father, Gerald Dockum; and mother, Claire Dockum. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Matthew A. Husson III; sons, David Westerfield and wife, Mary Ann, Christopher Westerfield, Matthew Husson and wife, Marni, Stephen Husson and wife, Melanie, and Eric Husson and wife, Nikki; grandchildren, Brea, Reilly, Cole, Stephen, Cassidy, and Emerie Husson, Kayley and Kirby Westerfield, and Holden Weisman; siblings, Daniel and Dennis Dockum, Marna Bellanca, Christine Kenny, and Sheila Paparo; aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Jenner, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jenner and Mrs. Rita Jenner; and numerous cousins. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Claytor Rollins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, www.claytorrollins.com.
