About | Age 91 - Junior-High Science - Jerome L. Bombard, 91, a retired teacher, died Sunday at his home in Norfolk, NY. The funeral was held in St. Raymond's Church with the Rev. J. Everett Denesha officiating. Burial was made in Church of the Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Surviving are his wife, Violet; a daughter, M. Diane; three sons, Ronald J., Bruce P. and Sheldon J.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Five brothers, Leonard, Clifford, Richard, Robert and Louie; a sister, Ruby, and a granddaughter died before him. Born May 31, 1903, in Brushton, a son of Henry and Charlotte Jerome Bombard, he graduated from Brushton High School and Potsdam State Teachers College. He married Violet LaCombe Dec. 26, 1930, in St. Joseph's Church, Bombay, with the Rev. P.J. McGinnis officiating. Mr. Bombard taught seventh and eighth grades at Raymondville for many years and was principal and taught junior high school science at Norwood-Norfolk Central School, retiring June 1968. Of 44 1/2 years of teaching, he taught at Norwood-Norfolk Central School for 19 years. He was a member of St. Lawrence Council 1141 Knights of Columbus, Massena, the Norfolk Jolly Agers Club and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. He also was a communicant of St. Raymond's church and a Red Cross volunteer. Mr. Bombard spent winters for the last 27 tears at Riviera Beach, FL. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed shuffleboard, cards, bingo and sports. |
