About | Age 68 - Norfolk – With heavy hearts the family of Kester Lawrence Wells, 68, announces his passing on Monday, February 5, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ surrounded by family and close friends. Kester was born on August 10, 1949 in Malone and was the son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (McElwain) Wells. Kester graduated from Norwood-Norfolk High School in 1969. On April 28, 1973, Kester united into marriage with Debra Porter at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk, where the Rev. George Lemieux presided. He was a United States Army Veteran and retired in 2010 from his career as a pipefitter. He was a lifelong resident of Norfolk. Kester was a member of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Association, he also served as the chairman for the Norfolk Democratic Club, and the chairman of the Board of Appeals for the town of Norfolk. Kester enjoyed traveling throughout the United State meeting and making new friends. He also loved to barbecue and spend quality time with his children, grandchildren, and family. Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his wife Debra of over 44 years, and his children Rachel (Brian) Eitzen of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Chad (Jillian) Wells of Greenfield, Indiana. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Kevin and Collin Wells and his siblings Keith Wells and Kim Wells. Besides his parents he is pre-deceased by a brother Kevin. Respecting Kester's wishes there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at The Church of the Visitation in Norfolk, with the Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon for close family and friends. Interment will be held in the spring with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in Kester's honor to the Church of the Visitation, 3 Morris Street, Norfolk, NY 13667, Paralyzed Veterans of American, P.O Box 758532, Kansas 66675, or to the St. Jude Research Hospital P.O Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
