About | Age 59 - Folkston, GA - Lawrence “Larry” Benjamin Newvine, 59 passed away Tuesday, January 2, at his home. Larry was born on February 20, 1958, in Potsdam, New York. He moved to Folkston in 1999 and has called Folkston home since. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Newvine. He is survived by his mother, Beverly Newvine of Folkston; his five children: Jeremy Newvine of Folkston, Peter (Stacy) Newvine of the U.S. Army currently serving in Colorado Springs, CO, Kimberly (Justin) Sochia of Parishville, NY, Sarah (Kyle) Stark of Colton, NY, and Nicole (Alex) Butkovich of Kingsland, GA; his nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Wyatt, Alivia, Aidin, Garrick, Rayah, Oriana, Kaden, and Claire; his five brothers, Brian (Tammy) Newvine of Moultrie, GA, Paul (Ellie) Newvine of Hannawa Falls, NY, Jim (Joyce) Newvine of Folkston, John (Theresa) Newvine of Warners, NY, and Dennis (Vicky) Newvine of Moultrie, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Larry was a 1977 graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Central High School. He served 32 years in the U.S. Army with six of those years as active duty. During his time in the army, he received many decorations and awards, including the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Larry was proud of serving his country and had a great love for the United States. Larry was a member of the American Legion #68 and the VFW of Parishville, NY. He was always willing to stand up for what he believed in and enjoyed the freedoms our country provides, such as riding the roads on his motorcycle. Memorialization was by cremation. Services will be held at Andersonville National Cemetery at a later date. Messages of condolences may be expressed to the family by signing the registry at www.nassaufh.com.
