About | Age 54 - ALSO Faculty - (NNCS Library Media Specialist) - Massena - Marcia M. Eggleston, 54, of Churchill Ave. Massena, passed away Monday evening (March 30, 2015) at Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Marcia was born in Massena on June 5, 1960 to Lawrence A. and Margaret (Margittay) Connelly. She graduated from Norwood-Norfolk High School in 1978, received her bachelor's degree in history from SUNY Potsdam, a Master's degree in Library Science from SUNY Albany and certification in Educational Administration from St. Lawrence University. She married Michael Eggleston on August 11, 1984 in Norfolk. She began her career as a school library media specialist at Chateaugay Central and following that at Norwood-Norfolk. She was then employed at St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES as director of the School Library System and supervisor of the Learning Resources Center. Marcia is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Michael Eggleston; her son, Jon P. and his fiancée Allison Frechette-Maskell of Oakdale, CT; step-children Cherie and Barry Lawrence and Christopher M. and Julie Eggleston both of Massena; step-grandchildren Devin Page, and Kadien Lawrence, Autumn and Thomas Eggleston all of Massena, and Alexis McInerney of Oakdale, CT; three sisters, Susan and Michael Griffin of Franklin, TN, Anne and Anthony DiBernardo of Fairport, and Mary and Scott Lalumiere of Hinesburg, VT; her parents, Deacon Lawrence A. and Margaret Connelly of Norfolk; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Marcia loved family and spent countless hours tracing her family tree back as far as the Revolutionary War on the Connelly side and to the Mayflower on the Eggleston side. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and many Genealogy Societies. She was very active professionally as well. She served as advisor to the Norwood Norfolk National Honor Society. She was a member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Society serving on the Board of Trustees. She was a member of the American Association of School Librarians. She has served in many capacities for the New York Library Association including president. She has served as the Region IV representative for the School Library Media Section of NYLA, numerous positions including president for the Northern Area School Library Media Specialists. In 2012 - 2013 she was awarded the NYLA Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication and work on behalf of NYLA/SSL and the profession. In addition the Section of School Librarians (a division of NYLA) established a scholarship in her name for someone to attend the annual Educational Leadership Conference which she helped to establish. Marcia was a lector at St. Joseph's Church. Marcia had a variety of hobbies including needlework, reading, traveling with family, spending time at the Higley camp, tea parties and travel excursions with her close group of librarian girl friends, a love of music, joining in the fun times with pirate activities at school, and spoiling her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Friends and family are welcome to call at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena April 4, 2015 from 2-7 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
