About	Age 67 - Norfolk - Chester J. “Chet” Ashley, 67, of 4 Rogers Drive, passed away Sunday night, March 29, 2015 at his home, with his children by his side, after a lengthy illness. Chet was born February 24, 1948, son of the late William and Winnifred Barrigar Ashley. He graduated from Norwood Norfolk High School in 1966 and then entered the U.S. Army on February 21, 1967, until he was medically discharged on December 9, 1968, after being shot during the Vietnam conflict. In his early life he was employed at the Norfolk Paper Mill, later going to work for Potsdam State University for 28 years, as an electrician, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed watching Yankee games, and loved fishing and hunting. Chester cherished his time with his granddaughter, and his beloved dog Duke. Chet is survived by his three children, Amanda Ashley, Norwood, Chris Ashley, Massena, and Scott Ashley, Pittsburgh, PA; his granddaughter, Peyton; his grand dog “Duke”; sisters Agnes Phelix, Massena and Patty Ashley, Georgia; and his brothers, Lawrence Ashley, Norfolk and William Ashley, Madrid. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Wayne Ashley; and two sisters, Ida Greenwood, and Anna LaVack. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, with Brendon Hardy officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Chet’s memory to Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley.
