About Age 48 - Stuart W. Barkley, 48 of Madrid, NY passed away at home Friday, February 3, 2012 while surrounded by his loving family and Hospice. Funeral services for Stuart will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in Madrid at the Phillips Memorial Home at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow at The Ole Smokehouse, in Madrid. Family and friends are welcome to call Monday, February 6, 2012 from 1 - 4 and 6 - 9 p.m. at the Madrid funeral home. Internment will be held in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family. Stuart is survived by his wife, Dawne; a son, Michael S. and his wife Kristin O'Neil of Frederick, MD; three daughters, Megan M. and her husband Jordan Fernandes of Potsdam, Lindsay J. and Logan M. of Madrid; parents, Wendell and Jean Barkley of Norwood; a brother, Stephen and wife Robin Barkley of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Braeden and McKenzie; also many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Stuart was born December 7, 1963 in Potsdam. He attended and was a graduate of Norwood-Norfolk High School and later attended Canton ATC. Stuart was also an Assistant Store Manager at P&C, which he had been employed with since 1989. He married his loving wife September 19, 1992 at the United Methodist Church in the town of Norfolk. Stuart was a member of the Potsdam Elks Lodge # 2074 and was an avid golfer at the St. Lawrence Country Club in Canton. Stuart was also a devoted long time hockey fan of both the Boston Bruins and Clarkson University Hockey teams. Stuart enjoyed spending time with his family while vacationing in Myrtle Beach and Florida. Stuart also enjoyed gardening, and bird watching.
