About	Age 19 - Massena - Derek was born January 27, 1992 in Massena the son of Derek J. Ober and Jennifer Newcombe. He attended Norwood-Norfolk Schools and later received his GED. "D" or "Jeter", as he was affectionately known, worked for American Paving in Massena doing seal coating. He was an avid Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. He loved to draw, spend time with his brothers, fishing, and his dogs. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jennifer and Shawn Benware of Norfolk; his father, Derek of Massena; his maternal grandparents, Bruce and Linda Newcombe of Norfolk; his paternal grandparents, Sharon Ober and Doug Hawkins of Potsdam; his step-grandparents, Connie and Bruce Avery of Brushton and Jerry and Jessica Benware of Massena. He is also survived by his half brothers, Zackery Benware of Norfolk and Zayden Ober of Massena; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Richard Ober in 1986. Services were held privately in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood with Rev. Robert Billings, officiating. Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Potsdam Humane Society or a local MADD chapter.
