About | Age 66 - Norwood - James E. Mackey, 66, of 30 Spring St., Norwood, owner of Mackey's Tavern on Mechanic Street, died Friday at his home. He had been ill with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 9 p.m. today at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with the Rev. Paul Worczak, pastor of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Potsdam. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the St. Lawrence Valley Hospice. He is survived by his wife, Earlene; a son, Duane M. Hicken, of Norwood; three daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Kathleen) Graham, of Norwood, Mrs. Robert (Darlene) Emlaw, of Norfolk, and Mrs. David (Frances) Babcock, of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, John, of Norwood, Lawrence of Massena, and Richard of Washington, D.C.; and a sister, Eleanor (Dody) Church, of California. A sister, Emily, died before him. Mr. Mackey was born in Potsdam Jan. 21, 1928, the son of Harold and Winifred Sullivan Mackey. He was a U.S. Navy, Army and Marine Corps veteran and served in the military during World War II and the Korean War. He married Earlene Turner Nov. 23, 1952 and worked for a time at the Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Company in Potsdam, then he and his wife owned and operated Mackey's Tavern on Mechanic Street. Mr. Mackey was a member of the Norwood American Legion, the VFW in Potsdam and the AMVETS in Massena. |
