About	Age 19 - Potsdam - An accident at about 4 a.m. Sunday, one Norfolk man was killed and another severely burned when the car they were in crashed into a tree. Troopers said the vehicle had been, northbound on the Sober Street Road, Town of Potsdam, when the operator of the car, Richard Paige, 20, of Norfolk, applied the brakes prior to an upcoming left turn, ran off the right side of the road, skidded 130 feet, went across the road and skidded another 130 feet and hit a tree. The car then burst into flames, the driver was ejected and pinned under the left front end of the vehicle. A passenger in the car, Dave Frederick, 18, of Remington Ave., Norfolk, was pinned inside the car, troopers said. The fire was extinguished by the Norwood Fire Department prior to removal of the passenger and operator by the Norfolk Rescue Squad. The two were first taken to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, and were later transferred by a helicopter from Plattsburgh Air Force base to Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Troopers said Paige received third- and-fourth degree burns over 37-percent of his body, while Frederick suffered third and fourth degree burns over 75 percent of his body. A hospital spokesman said Frederick died at about noon Sunday. A hospital spokesman said Paige was listed in guarded condition and said Paige was in the hospital's burn center. Funeral services for David Frederick, 18, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Chureh of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. George Lemieux, officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings. Surviving are his parents; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Frederick; his maternal grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson LaBarge, Hewitville; a brother; Richard, Norfolk; a sister, at home. He was born in Potsdam on Aug. 30, 1960, son of Edgar and Martha Kennedy Frederick. He was a 1978 graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Central School and was a sophomore at Brockport State University.
