JAMES WALTER KENWORTHY

Class of 1971

In the winter of 1975 I visited Montreal, Quebec, Canada. During my stay in Montreal I saw two games at the Montreal Forum between the Montreal Canadiens and the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Montreal lost to the Buffalo Sabres 7-6 in a game that featured a penalty shot by Richard Martin of Buffalo. The next day Guy Lafleur scored a hat trick as the Canadiens defeated the Penguins 7-2. In the afternoon I saw the Montreal Juniors of the LHJMQ defeat the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 4-2 at the Forum. Witht the help of the maid at my hotel I found two ice hockey rinks at Montreal's Lafontaine Park. I then talked my way into several ice hockey games with the french canadian boys there. Great fun.
I was back in Montreal in the summer of 1975 and got into some softball games in Lafontaine Park. I also saw the Montreal Expos at Jarry Park. The Expos lost to the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros respectively.
In the winter of 1976 I was back in Montreal. I saw the Canadiens defeat the Washington Capitals 7-0, lose to the Buffalo Sabres 4-2, defeat the Detroit Red Wings 7-1. and defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0. I also saw the Montreal Juniors defeat the Sorel Black Hawks 3-2, defeat the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 7-5, and defeat the Hull Festivals 7-5. I also played some more pickup games in Lafontaine Park.
