Captain Tullio Hofstad
Class of 1984
Navy, 40 Years
Captain Tullio Hofstad began his Naval career in 1985 as a Seaman Recruit assigned to the Naval Recruit Training Center, San Diego, CA. Following the completion of Cryptologic Technician (Administrative) "A" School at NTTC Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida, Captain Hofstad reported to U.S. NAVCAMS NSGD, Guam. In July 1998, Captain Hofstad received a Direct Commission while attached to Naval Reserve Security Group Detroit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Following his tour, Captain Hofstad completed multiple Department Head tours as Operations Officer, NRSG Minneapolis; N7 and N3 of NRSG Orlando, Florida and Signals Intelligence Watch Officer, Harrogate, England. During this period, Captain Hofstad served as OIC of various Joint COMSEC Monitoring assignments in Seoul, Korea, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, NSGA Naples, Italy, U.S. Navy 5THFLT, Manama, Bahrain, and the Pentagon.
In January 2002, Captain Hofstad mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Noble Eagle to Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. In May 2004, was mobilized a second time to United States Central Command as a Watch Section OIC for SIGINT Collections in support of the GWOT in two theaters of war including OIF and OEF. In December 2012, Captain Hofstad mobilized for a third time to Joint Special Operations Task Force-Trans Sahel as the Deputy Chief Intelligence Operations Officer (DJ2).
Captain Hofstad held numerous computer industry certifications; certified by the State of Iowa DOE and holds a Master’s Degree in Cyber Policy and Risk Analysis from Utica College, NY. He is a graduate of National Defense University at U.S. Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, VA earning Advance Joint Professional Military Education (AJPME) credit, Joint Information Operations Planners Course (JIOPC) and Joint C4I Staff and Operations Course (JC4ISOC) certifications. CAPT Hofstad also earned Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I) credit with United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Quantico, Virginia.
Captain Hofstad is married and is the Commanding Officer, Navy Reserve United States Cryptologic Warfare Group-SIX and formerly the Deputy Chief for National Cryptologic School College of Cyber at the National Security Agency, Chief Operations Officer for Cyber and SIGINT Requirements Center
and the former Deputy Director with Integrated Broadcast Service Support Office (IBSSO), United States Fleet Cyber Command, Tenth Fleet, Ft. George Meade, Md.
Captain Hofstad’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards) and Armed Forces Reserve Medal (three awards with “M” device), Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (four stars), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Navy Meritorious Commendation Medal, Navy E Ribbon, Pistol Qualification Ribbon (sharp shooter), and various unit and personal commendations and awards.
