About Richard Anthony Haugebak went to his forever home on September 17, 2023. He died at Peppi’s House (Hospice) in Tucson, Arizona. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a
later date.
Richard Anthony Haugebak was born on April 2, 1949, at Park Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, son of Marle Haugebak and Beryl (Anderson) Haugebak-Heltne. He was baptized on May 8, 1949, at First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Iowa, by Pastor Alf W. Jorgenson. Rick was confirmed on April 7, 1963, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona by Pastor L. Olav Tolo. Rick attended Northwood Elementary Schools, then moved to Glendale, Arizona, in 1959. There he attended Glendale Elementary and William C. Jack School in the eighth grade, then Glendale High School. In 1966 they moved back to Iowa where he graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1967. He was united in marriage to Sharon Buehrer on May 27, 1983, in Northwood, Iowa. Between them they had five children, Nichelle Cherise Haugebak, Heather Joy (Haugebak) DeBerry, Kristopher Haugebak, Timothy Haugebak and Susanne Haugebak. He worked for his brother Mark in construction, then in 2003 he started his own company, RH Construction, that he operated until 2020 when health issues made it necessary to retire. Rick enjoyed time spent with his family, trips with,Sharon, hunting, camping and working around his home. Sharon was so proud of all the improvements he did on their home. Papa, as he was known to the grandchildren, was always happy to spend time with his grandchildren. They would ask him a simple question and he could spend 20 minutes talking to them about whatever they wanted to know or maybe didn’t want to know. He was also known
for his corny jokes! In 2016 they purchased an RV and enjoyed little trips in that. Rick was a member of Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene. He had a great faith in his Savior, which
got him through some tough times, including two open heart surgeries, Congestive Heart Failure and dementia. They were involved with the nursery at church, enjoying their ”babies” that they got to play with on Sunday mornings. The little ones loved him and even remembered him after they “graduated” and moved to another classroom. Unfortunately, due to COVID and other health issues, they had to give that up in 2020. Rick is survived by his wife, Sharon Haugebak; daughters, Nichelle (Nicki) Haugebak, Heather Joy DeBerry and her husband Charles; his granddaughters, Emma and Ellie DeBerry; and his “adopted”
grandchildren, Jacob Woosley and Keira Painter all from Tucson, Ariz.; son, Kristopher Haugebak and his wife, Wendy; and grandsons, Jeremiah, Joshua and Jacob from Thompson, Iowa; son, Timothy Haugebak and his wife, Jennifer; and grandsons, Tyler and
Garet from Anthem, Ariz.; and daughter, Susanne Haugebak, Denver, Colo.; his brother, Mark (Devonlee) Haugebak; and sister, Kathy Parks; along with many nieces and nephews. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Marle Haugebak and Beryl Haugebak-Heltne; his brother, Clayton Haugebak; his sister-in-law, Margie Haugebak; his brother in law, Joel Parks; his fatherin-law and mother-in law, Eldon and Ellen Buehrer; and sister-in-law, Dawn (Buehrer) Steenhard.*
