Terry was born on Feb. 3rd, 1949, in Mason City, the son of Orland and Maxine
(Dane) Tenold. His education started in the Kensett Public Schools, and
continued in the Northwood-Kensett Public Schools. He was a member of the
National Honor Society and also a recipient of the Swensrud Scholarship. He
graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1967. He went on to enter Iowa
State University in Ames, graduated in 1971, summa cum laude, with a B.S. in
Landscape Architecture.
During the summer of 1967, Terry worked in the Black Hills of South Dakota. That
fall he accepted a position with the U.S. Government working in the division of
Forestry. His first job took him to Little Rock, Ark., where he worked for a
number of years. His next move was to Jackson, Miss., working there until
accepting a position to work in the rain forest of Puerto Rico. He came back to
the states after nine years in Puerto Rico, and began working in the Tallahassee
region, continuing his work in the National Forests in Florida. He became a
member of the Florida Trail Association and held offices in that organization.
He promoted hiking throughout his tenure in Tallahassee. Terry was an avid
runner for 26 years, entering the New York Marathon and running in the annual
Turkey Trot in Tallahassee for many years. He retired in 2004, at the age of 55
and with 33 years with the U.S. Government.
An extra special time for Terry was spending every Christmas with his family and
friends in his home state of Iowa. All the years while working in the southern
region of Florida and in Puerto Rico, he never missed coming home for Christmas.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Jo Reyerson (Travis) of
Radcliffe, and Fay Tenold of Maple Grove, Minn.; nephews, Kris Haugebak (Wendy)
and boys, Jeremiah, Josh, and Jacob of Thompson, and Tim Haugebak (Jennifer) and
boys, Tyler and Garet of Farmington, Minn., and niece, Susie Reinesch (Chris) of
Denver, Colo.; two great-great nieces, Lili and Bella Haugebak; two aunts, Grace
Tenold of Kensett, and Lois Tenold of Albert Lea, Minn.; as well as many other
extended family members and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge
the many friends he left behind in Florida Trail Association and two good
friends, Bill Collis and George Taylor, both of Tallahassee, Fla.
