About | Kensett - Terry Ore Tenold, 63, formerly of Kensett, and now of Tallahassee, Fla., died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the Tallahassee Memorial Health Care. A celebration of Terry's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 600 Fifth Street, Kensett, with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Kensett Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday, July 16. Those wishing to give a memorial in his memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to Appalachee Chapter Florida Trail Association, in care of Thomas Smith, 5336 Tallapoosa Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements. Terry was born on Feb. 3rd, 1949, in Mason City, the son of Orland and Maxine (Dane) Tenold. His education started in the Kensett Public Schools, and continued in the Northwood-Kensett Public Schools. He was a member of the National Honor Society and also a recipient of the Swensrud Scholarship. He graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1967. He went on to enter Iowa State University in Ames, graduated in 1971, summa cum laude, with a B.S. in Landscape Architecture. During the summer of 1967, Terry worked in the Black Hills of South Dakota. That fall he accepted a position with the U.S. Government working in the division of Forestry. His first job took him to Little Rock, Ark., where he worked for a number of years. His next move was to Jackson, Miss., working there until accepting a position to work in the rain forest of Puerto Rico. He came back to the states after nine years in Puerto Rico, and began working in the Tallahassee region, continuing his work in the National Forests in Florida. He became a member of the Florida Trail Association and held offices in that organization. He promoted hiking throughout his tenure in Tallahassee. Terry was an avid runner for 26 years, entering the New York Marathon and running in the annual Turkey Trot in Tallahassee for many years. He retired in 2004, at the age of 55 and with 33 years with the U.S. Government. An extra special time for Terry was spending every Christmas with his family and friends in his home state of Iowa. All the years while working in the southern region of Florida and in Puerto Rico, he never missed coming home for Christmas. Those left to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Jo Reyerson (Travis) of Radcliffe, and Fay Tenold of Maple Grove, Minn.; nephews, Kris Haugebak (Wendy) and boys, Jeremiah, Josh, and Jacob of Thompson, and Tim Haugebak (Jennifer) and boys, Tyler and Garet of Farmington, Minn., and niece, Susie Reinesch (Chris) of Denver, Colo.; two great-great nieces, Lili and Bella Haugebak; two aunts, Grace Tenold of Kensett, and Lois Tenold of Albert Lea, Minn.; as well as many other extended family members and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge the many friends he left behind in Florida Trail Association and two good friends, Bill Collis and George Taylor, both of Tallahassee, Fla. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, along with many aunts and uncles. |
