Virginia Tech women’s basketball player (2019-Present)[13]

What is Elizabeth “Liz” Kitley known for?

Elizabeth "Liz" Kitley, born in Summerfield, North Carolina, is an acclaimed American basketball player. Kitley, born on September 17, 2001, has achieved notable success as a center for the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Standing tall at 6 ft 6 in, Kitley has carved her niche in the realm of college basketball.

Her high school career at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, was where her sporting prowess first became evident. Despite preferring softball by fifth grade, she eventually focused on basketball and, as a sophomore, led her team to its first state championship at the 4A tournament and was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the title game. In her junior season, she replicated this success, securing another state title and once again being named the MVP of the title game. Her senior year, however, was marked by a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined her until the last two games of the season. This setback notwithstanding, she committed to play for Virginia Tech, attracted by their robust basketball program.

During her college career at Virginia Tech, Kitley had a fantastic debut in 2019, scoring a season-high 27 points. As a freshman, she averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, earning the title of ACC Freshman of the Year. In her sophomore year, she averaged 18.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and was awarded first-team All-ACC honors.

Kitley has also been recognized at the national level. She was named second-team All-American by Associated Press (AP) and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) in 2023. In 2022, she was honored as a third-team All-American. Additionally, she was also bestowed with the prestigious ACC Player of the Year award for two consecutive years (2022, 2023), and was part of the first-team All-ACC from 2021-2023.

Elizabeth Kitley's remarkable performance and unwavering dedication have made her a standout basketball player. Despite the challenges she encountered, her impressive skillset and achievements reflect her tenacity and commitment to the sport.
