| Favorite School Memory | I have to pick one? Hanging out with "The Gang" at lunchtime, ("We're not a club, we're a gang!") reading the dirty parts of Romeo and Juliet out loud. | About Me | Worked for many years with San Bernardino County Public Health, changed the world while supervising the Toacco Use Reduction Now program (smokers fear me, breathers thank me). In my best year, 2003, I got all of my staff (myself included) to complete 3 year research projects and have presentations accepted at a Statewide Tobacco-Free Conference and a massive National Public Health Conference. Then came burn-out as the state wanted us to focus less on prevention and more on smoke-free doorway laws, plus the pinch of budget cuts, so I took the opportunity to become my husband's office manager at his Optometry office in Indian Wells, CA. He's a wonderful man I met at UC Riverside. No kids, sadly. The work is nice, but not as much fun as going to preschool classes with a person in a Puffless the Smoke-free Dragon costume or introducing kids at youth camp to Miss Nicotina Carcinoma. When I left, I thought they could get along fine without me, but at a recent Prop 99 20th anniversary event i learned that all the progress we made in getting the Inland Empire's Youth Smoking rate from the highest in the state to one of the lowest has all been thrown away. Youth smoking in the state is now higher than it was before Prop 99 went into effect! Smokefree beaches and doorways don't do anything to create smokefree kids.
