Charles (Dennis) Neal
Class of 1971
Navy, 20+ Years
Served as a Navy journalist and Public Affairs Officer from 1973 to 1994. Did tours in Athens, Greece ('74-'75); Navy Broadcasting Service Sigonella, Sicily ('75-'78); Southern European Broadcasting Service, Vicenza, Northern Italy, ('78-'82), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on staff of Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet, ('82-'85), aboard aircraft carrier USS America, including the attacks on Libya in March and April 1986 ('85-'88), staff of NATO Headquarters Norfolk, Va. ('88-'92) and Public Affairs Officer for Navy Recruiting District New York from 1992-1994. I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, three Navy Achievement Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal in addition to several campaign and service awards, including two instances of the National Defense Service Medal (for Vietnam War-era and Persian Gulf War).

Served 4.5 years active duty Marine Corps and 6 years Army National Guard as Marine Corps infantry and Security Forces and Army infantry. 2 tours in Iraq. Stationed in Spain, North Carolina and Virginia. Deployed to approx. 13 countries in 10 years of service for various missions.
