| About Me | First student to be on the faculty at U Michigan. Did research for Space Shuttle, acid rain, global climate change. Lived in Hilo, Hawaii while doing research inside active volcano. Became a tenured assoc. professor teaching non-mathematical interdisciplinary natural science and history of science in Kentucky. A local TV station asked me to do weekend weather reports. A competing station asked me to work for them full time. A station in Norfolk called and asked me to work for them. My knowledge of the mathematics and experience teaching science without using math, coupled with my disdain for celebrities and hype and with my dry wit, quickly made me the number one TV newsperson, and the most approachable off-air. I also became a Master Gardener and started several projects dealing with children. I am now disabled with severe narcolepsy; I continue to do volunteer work with children, I'm on the board of the Virginia Flower & Garden Show, and I and give humorous public slide-show talks about weather for gardeners, lightning safety, rainbows, and others.
