SOLSTICE MFA IN CREATIVE WRITING PROGRAM ANNOUNCES
FELLOWSHIP WINNERS FOR 2011 WINTER/SPRING SEMESTER


[Chestnut Hill, MA, December 2010] The Solstice Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing Program of Pine Manor College is pleased to announce its Fellowship winners for the 2011 winter/spring semester: MFA student Beth Richards has been awarded the Michael Steinberg Fellowship for Creative Nonfiction, and MFA student Alison McLennan has been awarded the Dennis Lehane Fellowship for Fiction.

Both fellowships are offered once annually to a promising writer starting the program during the winter/spring semester. Fellowship recipients each receive a $1,000 award toward their first semester�s tuition.

Beth Richards is a northwest Florida native who now lives in Southington, Connecticut. She is director of First-Year Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Hartford and a faculty member for the Rhetoric and Professional Writing program. Beth is a graduate of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia and received her Master of Arts in English from Georgia State University in Atlanta. In 2005 her essay �The Fishing Story� was awarded the first place Editors� Prize in Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction. She is currently at work on a series of essays.

Alison McLennan is a native of Quincy, Massachusetts, and now based in Odgen, Utah. A graduate of the University of Utah, Alison has worked extensively with non-profit organizations in numerous roles, including curriculum development, grant writing, and crisis intervention. Currently a teacher at the Utah Virtual Academy, Alison has been a recipient of a Utah Arts Council award for her writing. She is at work on a cross-genre novel, Falling For Johnny, set in her childhood home of Massachusetts.
