The Congressional Badge of Bravery can only be awarded by a member of Congress, second only to the Congressional Medal of Honor awarded by the President.

On May, 31 2013 The Congressional Badge of Bravery was presented by U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller & U.S. Representative David McKinley to Derek W. Hotsinpiller (postumously)and 6 other Deputy U.S. Marshals.

(Two of which were North Marion Alumni: Dep. U.S. Marshal Philip Efaw Class of 1990 and Supervisory Dep. U.S. Marshal Alex Neville Class of 1987)

The Mountain State Fugitive Task Force Team won the Congressional Award For Actions taken Under Fire in the Line of Duty during the fateful shootout in Elkins, WV, on Feb. 16, 2011, when they lost one of their own Dep. U.S. Marshal Derek W. Hotsinpiller.
