About Dr. William Gregg Eubanks, Jr., of Eldorado, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the age of 55.

Born in Ripley, Tenn., Gregg was a 1972 graduate of Norris City High School and in 1974 received his associates of science degree from Southeastern Illinois College. In 1976, he graduated from Murray State University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. After graduating from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1981, Gregg practiced optometry for 28 years in Harrisburg.

He served the profession he loved as president of the Illinois Optometric Association from 2007-2008. In 2007, he was recognized as an SIC Distinguished Alumnus. He was an elder of the Eldorado First Presbyterian Church and a community advocate in his role on the board of Ferrell Hospital. Passionate about astronomy, Gregg was a dedicated member of the Evansville Astronomical Society and the National Deep Sky Observer Association.

Gregg was united in marriage to his wife of 33 years, Katina Smith Eubanks, on May 22, 1976. Their son, Dr. Blaine Eubanks, is currently a medical resident in Peoria, while their daughter, Krystina "Glimmer" Eubanks, is following in her father's footsteps as a student of optometry. Preceded in death by his father, William Gregg Eubanks Sr., Gregg is survived by his mother, Eugenia Eubanks; and his brother, Shad Eubanks. Also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Krystal and Joe Tison; two nieces, Kacy and Kara Tison; and a nephew, Read Eubanks.
