What is Steve Pecher known for?

Steve Pecher, born on February 13, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, is a prominent figure in American soccer history. A Normandy High School alum, he started his football journey with the Florissant Cougars youth club, leading his high school team to the Missouri state championship in 1974.

Pecher's professional career kicked off when he signed with the Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1976. He stood out during his first season and was named the 1976 NASL Rookie of the Year. His time with the Dallas Tornado lasted until 1980, during which he made 139 appearances and scored seven goals.

Pecher also had a knack for indoor soccer, leading him to join the St. Louis Steamers of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) for the 1979–1980 season, where he continued to excel, earning the honor of MISL All Star in 1980. After multiple shifts between teams, he finally retired at the end of the 1987–1988 season, following a stint with the Los Angeles Lazers.

Internationally, Pecher represented the U.S. national team from 1976 to 1980, earning 17 caps. Notably, he served as U.S. team captain from 1978 to 1980.

After retiring from playing, Pecher segued into a career with Marriott, where he became the director of retail sales. He continues to contribute to soccer as the Missouri Girls Director of St. Louis Scott Gallagher, coaching young girls' teams.
