| About Me | Travel Writer Photographer Videography Musician / Producer As long as I can remember, I’ve had an affinity for Southeast Asia. Never knew why, but deep down inside I sensed a connection. Browsing through a Buddhist publication in 1998, I spotted an advertisement from the Tibetan Sponsorship Project requesting help to support the schooling of Tibetan refugees. After further investigation of this fine organization I was moved to sponsor a young Tibetan girl by the name of Ugyen Chokey. Her family suffered immense hardship in Tibet and sought refuge in Northern India. The family was destitute and the mother seriously ill. They could not provide her minimal school fees and had nowhere to turn. Ugyen’s dream, as many share in this part of the world, was to rise above her condition through education and benefit her family and culture. I quickly learned the enormous challenges posed on these peace loving people and decided to do what ever I could to help. For two years we exchange letters, report cards and holiday wishes. Gradually a rewarding connection was made. In late 2001, I was informed there was a tour group of sponsors taking a pilgrimage to the region. I knew I must go. With the generous support of family and friends, we trekked throughout Tibet, Nepal and India in 2002.
