About Me	I went to the University of Massachusetts where I met my wife. We married just after graduating from UMass. I then attended New York University where I received Master's and Doctorate degrees in Sociology. I taught at Bowdoin College for four years and have been on the faculty of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia since 1976. I served as department head for 14 years and am now the Abigail Grigsby Urquhart '11 Term Professor of Sociology. My wife received her doctorate from the University of Virginia in Developmental Psychology and was on the faculty of Mary Baldwin College for twentty-two years. She is now a Professor Emeritus.
