After graduating from Newton High Trade School, my brother was always busy usually working. As a little girl he’d ride me on his handlebars, belt a divan pillow on his back to give me bronco buster rides, pay me a nickel to spit shine his navy shoes before he’d leave for duty, and gave me one of his sailor hats after he was out of the service so I could be like the other girls in Jr. High that were getting the other kids to sign them. He was in the Naval submarine service for 8 year’s, and earned his dolphin’s. Over the years he had many interesting jobs. Boys my age hung around my house, not to see me, but to watch my brother teach other kids how to do all types of car repairs. He started a club called the Roadrunners, and during the weekend all the boys would go out on route 128, and fix any car that broke down (in those days, it was often). At one of his jobs, he designed and built a go cart well known as the black panther. He owned a large salvage boat called the Modig, and after gaining his Captain’s license, went to South America to build a seaport. I never knew him to not be busy.
