| About Me | I own an off the grid cattle ranch outside of Bend OR-Running almost 1000 acres in the middle of the wilderness with the nearest neighbors 1000 acres away, no "on grid" services therefor meaning every day life is run off of solar, wind, and diesel/gas generators when there is no run or wind for the turbines. This is a totally different way of thinking and understanding society. I am only 25 miles from the culture of Bend with 5* dining, shopping, and a good Aveda salon...The same distance to my town of Prineville that I prefer for everyday supplies. Geneva attends the local school and loves that her peers are "real kids" that understand ranch living and livestock. It is nice to go back home to Portland periodically, but only for short stays. This place up here gets into your blood, becomes part of your soul and it is almost a yearning when you are gone for too long. It always brings a smile when I come home, no matter what type of off the grid crisis I am encountering! It is interesting how many people tell me to "move to town, get off that mountain, it is just to harsh up there for 2 girls..." I have never been stronger, Geneva is learning what life is all about from nature and from her school. We both have made the choice to be here and have embraced it and respect it for the harshness and beauty it is. It is never to be taken for granted, the polar mood swings, the wild animals, hell the domesticated ones, are all a daily hazards.
