Navy, 16 Years

After graduation, Jeff went to Chicago/Great Lakes for Boot camp. Ater Boot he went to Naval Training Center Great Lakes and went to Basic Engineering school to learn the inner workings of a ship. Ater that, he went to Naval Training Center San Diego and went to school to learn what is actual job in the Navy was to be. After 11 weeks, Jeff found out that is job would be a machinist. Upon graduating his tech school, he went to his first ship USS Cape Cod (AD-43) to work in the machine shop and perform repairs for other surface ships. In July on '95, he went to his second ship USS Frank Cable (AS-40) to work in the machine shop and perform repairs on the Navy's submerines. In April of 96, The Frank Cable left it's homeport of Charleston, SC to move to it's new home.....Guam. There he stayed until March of 98. March of 98 he left the the Frank Cable, and arrived in Bremerton, WA and took orders to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and worked in the machine shop, making repairs on the ship and the Navy's F-14s and F-18s. April of 2000, he left WA, and took order's to his first shore duty. That billet took him to Naval Air Station Roosevelt Roads, in Puerto Rico. He worked in the machine shop there, base security, and oil spills, where the personnel involved picked up oil slicks left by the ships, that were refueling in port. In July of 01 he left Puerto Rico, and headed back to Great Lakes/Chicago to go to CNC school. There he learned how to use and program computerized milling machines and lathes. In Sept 01, he departed Great Lakes and took orders to Naval Air Station Oceana, in Virgina Beach, Va. There he worked on repairs for the Navy's planes (all types) and ran the CNC machines. In Nov 05 he left Ocean, and went to Norfolk, and was stationed on his 4th ship. USS Anzio (CG-68). There he worked independantly as the ships engraver and machinist. Also doing repairs to his ship's equipment. In Dec 09 he left the Anzio and headed to his current duty station. Naval Air Station Patuxent River, in Lexington, Maryland. There he is working in the machine shop doing repairs on the Navy's research and development and test planes. Jeff is due to retire in June of 2014 from his military career and that would put him at 20 yrs of service. He is hoping to retire in Maryland, and hope to move back close to home.
