Graduation Year Class of 1972
Date of Passing Dec 27, 2015
About Dixie Dea (Alcorn) Turner passed away at 5:30 A.M. December 27, 2015 at Henry County Hospital with her family at her bedside. She fought a long, valiant battle with multiple sclerosis. In the end, she ultimately won, leaving her family for a far better place with many loved ones who preceded her.

She was born June 16, 1954 in New Castle, a daughter of William E. and Elma Durham Alcorn Sr. She was a 1971 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School.

She was a wonderful, loving and loyal daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend. She worked locally at several businesses, finally being unable to continue because of the MS.
She loved her family most of all. But also loved gardening, putting out a huge garden every summer and canning a lot of her own food. She loved crocheting and crafts. She loved music, especially Bob Seger. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. When the MS took its toll on her mobility, she loved watching old reruns on USA and TNT networks. Being confined to a nursing home, Dixie was very compassionate with her roommates who were in need of a positive influence. She always had a big smile for all her visitors, and set a strong, brave example for all who came into contact with her.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Wayne (Sam) Turner; her daughter, Jenny Marie Crawford; grandsons, Myles Turner Crawford and Charles Irelan; her mother, Elma Alcorn of New Castle and Palm Harbor, Florida; her brother, Bill Alcorn of Sharpsville’ her sisters, Terri Hileman (husband, Rick) of rural Mooreland and Kriss Fredericks-Lockridge (husband, Vernon) of New Castle and Palm Harbor, Florida; her mother-in-law, Ruth Turner; sister-in-law, Sona Lowder (husband, Randy); nieces, Wendi Hileman-Shaffmaster (husband, Patrick), and Rachel wood (husband, Danny) stationed in Japan; nephews Trey Alcorn, Eric Alcorn, Glade Anthony Fredericks,(wife Julia) and Kristopher Fredericks (wife Emma) of West Lafayette, and many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Alcorn Sr., father-in-law, Stanley Turner, paternal grandparents, John Alcorn and Linnie Alcorn Luellen, and maternal grandmother, Anice Sosby.
Dixie’s family would like to thank the many people who loved and cared for Dixie. She had a few short stays at nursing facilities in the last several years, and had roommates Dora, Carolyn, and Wilma that she was especially fond of. She finally moved to Glen Oaks permanently in spring of 2014, and was happy to be close to her daughter who is an employee there. The staff there were wonderful and took very good care of Dixie. Lastly, the family would like to thank the staff in the E.R. and ICU at Henry County Hospital. They were so compassionate at a time when the smallest of kindness really counts.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donation to the Multiple Sclerosis or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
