About	Manuel "Manny" Martin Lima, Jr., age 86, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island, on July 30, 1928, Mr. Lima retired as a Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army following service in the United States Naval Reserve. CSM Lima was a veteran of the U.S. Army of Occupation (Germany) and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Most of his military service was in Europe and the Far East. Mr. Lima was a member of Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge #220, Khedive Shriners, VFW Post 392, the 14th Cavalry Association, the U.S. Constabulary Association, the Association of the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Cavalry Association. The highlight of Mr. Lima's military career was his service in cavalry reconnaissance units. A graduate of the U.S. Seventh Army Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, CSM Lima also studied at the Armed Forces Institute and Southeastern Massachusetts University. CSM Lima's military decorations and awards include: the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm (2nd Award), the Aircraft German Badge, the Meritorious Unit Emblem, the Army of Occupational Medal (Germany), and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his military retirement, CSM Lima served as a JROTC instructor at New Bedford High School and later became a successful real estate broker in southeastern New England. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Ingeborg Lore Lima; his children, Gary Norman Lima, Charmaine Ann Briggs, and Cynthia Renee Principi; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Peggy Lima DeLucca and Dorothy Lima Nappi. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 1 PM at Galilee Church in Virginia Beach. Burial with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 3 PM Monday, December 15, 2014. Condolences may be offered at www.hollomon-brown.com.
