About	Sophie (Ruscik) Sladewski, 94, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 8 at Sacred Heart Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Eugene (Jimmy) Sladewski. Alifetime resident of New Bedford, Sophie was the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Helena (Kiersznowski) Rusczyk. She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sophie was an honors graduate of New Bedford High School class of 1942. She worked in the sales department of Aerovox. She retired from the New Bedford School System where she worked as a para- professional for many years. She was a member of the Polish Women’s Auxiliary. Survivors include 2 daughters, Joan Fortin and her husband Arthur Gerard of Dartmouth, Susan Rainville and husband Thomas of New Bedford, 2 sons, Eugene Sladewski and wife Joelle of Wareham and Paul Sladewski and fiancée Priscilla Martin of New Bedford. Her 7 grandchildren are John and Brian Sladewski, Kate Mellace, Kyle Fortin, Jamie Sladewski, and Justin and Sarah Rainville. Sophie’s 9 great grandchildren include Nathan Medeiros Jr., Sophie Grace and Luke Sladewski, Scarlett and Salvie Mellace, Jordan Dupuis, Lucy Williams, Ava Rainville and Hunter Dias. She is also survived by 1 sister, Helen Ewaszko of New Bedford and 2 brothers Frank Ruscik of Acushnet, Chester Ruscik of New Britain, CT. and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Leokadya (Lee) Adamowski, Statia Dobyna, Stefanie Wajda and Stanley, Walter and Leo Ruscik. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 8AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 9AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, June 12 from 4-8 PM.
