About | Eugene H. Goldrick, 84, of St. Petersburg, Florida and New Bedford died Wednesday June 2, 2004 unexpectedly at his home in Florida. He was the husband of the late Pauline A. (Hebert) Goldrick. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Eugene W. and Ellen (Freeman) Goldrick, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life and had wintered in Florida for many years. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church in New Bedford. A well-known educator in this area, Mr. Goldrick began his teaching career at New Bedford Vocational High School and Fairhaven High School. He then served as an evaluator for the Massachusetts Department of Eduation. He later worked as a science teacher at New Bedford High School, before assuming the position of housemaster of the Gold House at New Bedford High School, where he served until his retirement. Mr. Goldrick was a graduate of Holy Family High School, Class of 1938, and received his Bachelors of Science degree from Providence College and his Masters Degree in Education from Bridgewater State College. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater medal, the American Theater medal, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 in New Bedford , American Legion Post 273 in Madeira Beach, FL, and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mary Goldrick DeMello and Pauline M. Racine, both of New Bedford,and Jeanne Langford of Warwick, RI; 2 sons, Joseph F. Goldrick and Mack Goldrick, both of New Bedford; his dear friend, Elizabeth "Irish" Frates of St. Petersburg; 9 grandchildren; a niece, Ellen Goulart of New Bedford; nephews in Florida; and 2 cousins who were like a brother and sister to him, Ronald Freeman of Lynnhaven, Fla., and Mary "Peggy" Freeman Johnson of Huntington Beach, CA. He was the father of the late Rose A. Leroux, and brother of the late Alice Sprague and Margaret Raynor and cousin of the late Alice Freeman |
