About	Loretta (Alves/Dlouhy) Moniz, 69, of New Bedford slipped away peacefully from her family and friends on November 5, 2017, succumbing to leukemia. Born in Fall River, she was the beloved daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Alves. Loretta moved to New Bedford where she pursued her teaching career at New Bedford High School in the Business Department and ultimately attained the position of Department Chair in 1991. She remained serving the students and staff of NBHS until her retirement in 2005. The joy of her life was meeting and marrying Richard Moniz. Throughout their marriage they traveled extensively and enjoyed meeting people and entertaining their friends on their boat or in their home. Her beloved Richard succumbed to cancer on January 5, 2017. Simon, their “adopted pet” misses them both, as do the many friends and family members. Private funeral arrangements were by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
