About | Karyn A. (Almeida) Estrella, 61, of New Bedford died Thursday, July 4, 2019 after a brief illness at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Thomas R. Estrella. Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Laurence Almeida and Joyceline (Enos) Cabral, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. Karyn was the President & CEO of the Home Medical Equipment and Services Association of New England. She dedicated more than 20 years advocating for the home medical equipment industry. Her colleagues considered her their champion, and have often said there will be none other like her. The work she did was legendary. Karyn enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Her hobbies included a love for music, dancing, traveling and volunteering for the National Parks Service at the New Bedford Whaling Historical Park in Massachusetts. Survivors include her husband; 2 daughters, Jaimie Pogany and her husband Dan of North Dighton and Lauryn Estrella of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Annette Almeida of New Bedford and Dianne Sousa of Acushnet; 3 grandchildren, Lillian, Jackson and Zackery; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Laurence Almeida and Daniel Almeida. Her Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 8th at 10 AM in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 7th from 2-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, Attn: Superintendent, 33 William St. New Bedford, MA 02740. |
