35th Reunion of the Class of 76

On Saturday, September 24, over 100 Neptune High School alumni and guests of the Class of 1976 gathered at The Oak Tree Lodge on Schoolhouse Road in Wall Township to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their graduation. The reunion committee began a massive effort, 6 months ago, to track down all 535 members of their graduating class. With a lot of investigating, pounding the pavement and telephone calls, contact was made with more than 80% of the Class of 1976.
The 35th Reunion celebration started Friday night with a gathering at a LaCantina in Neptune City, followed by the main event at The Oak Tree Lodge and ended with breakfast at Kelly’s Tavern Sunday morning. Alumni met Mr. Richard Allan, principal, at Neptune High School early Saturday morning and were given a tour of the school to see what is new and improved in the years since they have graduated. Even with all of these events, it was not enough time for the Class of 76 to catch up on 35 years. “It was like being in high school again, only better”, said Joel Knickerbocker.
The DJ played songs from the 70s, but the highlight of the afternoon was a set played by local band “NFS” which includes member of the Class of 76, Al Schnitzer and Ricky Draper. Mike Peniston, who was class president, addressed the attendees. A pop quiz was given to see how much the alumni remember about their high school years and everyone went home with a door prize. Attendees came from many states and as far away as Fort Worth, Texas. A memorable weekend was had by all that attended.
