Mr. J. Callan was the Principal of the school while I was there. He ran a very tight ship. Every assembly he told us "Long hair means poor grades." Boys were sent home if their hair went below their collar, and they weren't allowed back in until they got their hair cut. Nepean HS had the honour of having the most Ontario Scholars in the province. A lot of this was due to the fact that Nepean was I believe the only high school in Ottawa where students had to write every final exam, no matter what their mark was. In other words, there were no recommendations.
