About Me	After graduating from NCSU I worked with the Raleigh Parks ad Rec Dept. Followed by a year with the Boy Scouts and then 3 and half years in the Army (so they would pay off my student loans :-) ). When I got out of the Army I went to work for them as a civilian and my career started. I worked in the Parks and Recreation Department for an Installation in Germany while my husband at the time was on active duty. this was during the time of Dessert Storm and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Many great trips through Europe and Eastern Europe. Went back the US and from 1994-2001 my mother died, I was divorced and my father died. The best part of that time was working for a wonderful organization call Communities in Schools! They are a wonderful non-profit and the organizations leadership during that time where great mentors and helped me grow as an individual and understood being a single parent with aging parents. These are lessons on compassion and family I have never forgotten and still use with those who work with me today. At this time I went back to the Army and moved with my daughter to Germany so she could have her entire High School experience in Europe. while working for the Army as a civilian I have lived in Germany for 11 years, Korea 3 Years, Alabama and now Texas for 10 years. During that ten year period I have also done two tours to Iraq as a civilian into was zones to manage the bases where the soldiers live while not actively out engaged in combat. My daughter graduated from UNC-G and moved to Texas where she married and now lives with her husband an 2 children. I will be retiring in about 4 years and I am totally jealous of those who have already retired. But my work since 2005 has been in strategic planning of our bases based on the upcoming needs of the Army and it is always challenging so at least I am engaged in meaningful work th...(read more)
