About Me Being me is great ;-) I started tap dancing at the age of 6 with Marian Schatz in West Union, moved on to gymnastics and then back to dance by the age of 10. During high school I was the driving force to start a drill team and then became part of the state winning color guard. I also cheered in high school which lead to being a four year captain at UIU in Fayette for cheer and dance. I became involved with First Step Studio in 1996 and in 2000 became the owner. The studio is now located in four Northeast Iowa towns. I have been the Valley Swing Choir choreographer since 2005 and I love working with them. Janet Helgerson is a great director!! I love working in Alpha at the restaurant, garage and elevator! All in all I am super busy and loving every minute of it! My studio runs from August to May and in the off season we compete in the Bill Riley Talent Search. When time allows, my dancers, Dr. Shelly Abernathy and I study classical ballet at Saint Paul City Ballet in St. Paul, MN. To fill any free time I have, I do wedding dance choreography and outside community performances for whatever events would love to have Expressions Dance Studio in attendance. We even hit a few parades every now and then :-) I have shared my creative talents with the New Hampton drill team from 2008 to 2010 and I absolutly love choreographing on a competitve level! Love you Sonya Galligan!! I have a new love...Angie Killian and the MFL Bulldog drill team! Good luck to them at their first trip to state with my pom choreo!! Update ~ MFL placed 4th at the ISDTA and had never competed before...way to go!! I was a waterballer for the Hawkeye Fire Department for a decade. I've had my run and it's someone else's turn! I have been happily divorced effective June 4th, 2012 :-) It was a long divorce process as it took almost 3 years ~ I highly recommend having a pre-nup if you are contemplating marriage. You only find out who you are truly involved with after their dirty little s...(read more)
