Sarah died of cancer. She was a beautiful twin sister, aunt, wife and friend. She is missed everyday.

Sarah C. Blake, of Girdwood, Alaska died at her home, on May 27th, 2014, surrounded by family and friends and her devoted dog. Sarah's spirit is survived by her husband, Michael of Girdwood; parents, Louis and Wendy Axtman of Stow, MA; sister, Jenny Axtman of Stow, MA; twin sister, Hilary MacDonald of Willow, Alaska; brother, Louis Axtman, of Stow, MA; niece, Emily MacDonald; and nephew Thomas MacDonald; also survived by beloved friend Patty Devine. Sarah will always be remembered for her brilliantly warm smile and embracing personality.
Sarah's long battle with Cancer, despite the pain and discomfort, never diminished her desire to extract the good from each moment of every day.
Born in Massachusetts, Sarah grew up in Stow MA. She attended the University of Lowell, graduating in 1991 with a degree in Music Education. Following College, Sarah stayed close to Lowell by working as a Park Ranger at Lowell National Historical Park. Sarah and Michael's deep love of the natural world and seeking adventure, moved them to Alaska in 1999, settling in Girdwood in 2000. Sarah worked as a Band Teacher for the Anchorage School District, receiving her 10 year pin from Superintendent Carol Comeau.
Sarah loved the outdoors, hiking, skiing, being on her bike, flower hunting, bird watching, walking her dog and spreading her smile wherever she went.
A celebration of Sarah's life will be held at Challenge Alaska, 426 Crystal Mountain road in Girdwood, Alaska on June 21st, 2014 at 5:00 pm.
