John Boyett

Former National Football League player

What is John Boyett known for?

John Boyett, born on December 20, 1989, in Woodland, California, is a former American football safety. During his high school years, he played football at Napa High School in Napa, California, and made such an impact that he was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2023.

After high school, Boyett continued his football career playing for the Oregon Ducks from 2008 to 2012. His performance was lauded; he was voted Second-team All-Pac-10 in 2011 and was named to the watch lists for the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and Jim Thorpe Award in 2012.

John had a promising profession ahead of him, being selected during the sixth round in the 2013 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. However, he couldn't make the most of his NFL career due to legal incidents, including disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and resisting law enforcement. He also had a stint with the Denver Broncos where he was part of their practice squad.

Despite his turbulent NFL journey, Boyett made a significant turnaround when he joined the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in July 2015. In his initial season, Boyett played in only four games, but he left his mark by contributing six defensive tackles, two special team tackles, and one interception in limited playtime. During the off-season leading into 2016, Boyett transitioned into a linebacker role, which saw him play in 11 games, amass 28 defensive tackles, score 10 special teams tackles, two sacks, and one interception. His renewed efforts and contribution played a part in the Redblacks winning the 2016 Grey Cup.

Boyett's story stands as a testament of resilience and determination, reminding enthusiasts of the sport that even in challenging times, there's always room for improvement and redemption. You can visit NFL.com to check out his career statistics.
