About Me | LIEUTENANT COMMANDER ANDREW P. HAYES, UNITED STATES NAVY. LCDR Hayes was commissioned in May 1996 following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy, where he received a BS in Mathematics. He reported to flight training with VT-10, the "Wildcats", in July 1996 at NAS Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida. After completing primary and intermediate training with VT-10, he transferred to VT-86, the "Sabrehawks", for advanced training. LCDR Hayes received his wings of gold as a Naval Flight Officer in March 1998. He then reported to the VF-101 “Grim Reapers” in April 1998 for his initial qualification in the F-14 Tomcat. LCDR Hayes reported to the “Diamondbacks” of VF-102 in April of 1999, where he served as First Lieutenant, A/G WTO, and AV/ARM Division Officer. During this fleet tour, LCDR Hayes made 2 full deployments in support of Operations Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom. LCDR Hayes completed this tour in April 2002. LCDR Hayes reported to the “Flying Eagles” of VFA-122 in July 2002 at NAS Lemoore, California. Following FA-18F transition training, he served as a Super Hornet FRS Instructor. During his time at VFA-122, he served as Schedules Officer, A/A WTO, and Assistant Operations Officer. LCDR Hayes attended the US Navy Fighter Weapon School (TOPGUN) in July of 2003 and reported to the “Outlaws” of Strike Fighter Weapon School, Pacific (SFWSP) in February 2004. In addition to his duties as a Strike-Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI), he served as the FA-18F Forward Air Control (Airborne) program manager. LCDR Hayes reported to the “Jolly Rogers” of VFA-103 in June of 2005 as the squadron Training Officer. During this fleet tour, LCDR Hayes made an extended 8-month deployment in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Enduring Freedom–Horn of Africa. He was named 2006 Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet Naval Flight Officer of the Year. LCDR Hayes reported to the “Diablos” of Strike Fighter Weapon School, Atlantic (SFWSL) in June 2007 as the Operations Officer. He has accumulated over 2500 flight hours and 530 carrier arrested landings, including over 1000 hours in both the F-14 Tomcat and FA-18F Super Hornet. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross (with Combat V), eight Strike-Flight Air Medals, three Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals (one with Combat V), three Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 3 campaign stars, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
