About Me Made it through college, 40 Years later returned to MSU as a Professor of Practice and Director of International Initiatives in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. After graduation,,,short work in newspapers...entered VISTA, the domestic Peace Corp as commitment to alternative service after drawing number 366 in the first lottery. Followed with nine years working for social visionary/developer Jim Rouse mostly as Creative Director. Involvements in new city of Columbia, Maryland, supervised planning and operational activities on Faneuil Hall in Boston and other leading projects. Left as partner of development firm, but wooed to senior leadership position in Federated Department Stores development company. Strategist for projects across America. Company bought out and I was Executive Vice President of JMB Centers, reportedly largest property owner in America. Left to form Marketing Developments, Inc. and Planning Developments, Inc. in 1989, a research and marketing firm that grew to be a global development planning, government advisory, economic forecasting and city planning firm with clients and projects in 49 countries responsible for the first city within the city project in Dubai, Nova America in Rio de Janeiro, Metro Centro in El Salvador, planning advisory to the city of Portland, Oregon and 15 other major municipalities worldwide. Also provided seminar and convention feature/keynote speaking to International Institute of Research, Adam Smith Institute, International Council of Shopping Center, Urban Land Institiute and the International Economic Development Council Served as economic and development analyst for media. Served on MSU and University of Tennessee advisory boards, Vice Chair of Fort Lauderdale City Visioning Committee, on Executive Committee of Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association. Formerly chaired the Cincinnati Planning Committee and the Over the Rhine Foundation (organization for revitalization of Italianate architecture area and site of race riots). Personal life: Divorced, fortunate to have had long term relationships with several attractive (to me) and very intelligent women. Have happily dated Bev, a very special person, for past seventeen years, CFO of a college foundation and former investment firm senior officer. We travel regularly and have been very active in community educational programs. Fortunate to be part of a great family where 35 to 45 ex-Detroiters gather at appointed city every Thanksgiving with much talk about our Detroit heritage. Our proudest family achievement is inarguably my Mother (after my father's death) passing her GED, gaining a bachelors from Oakland College at 69, masters from Wayne at 80 and her doctorate from Wayne State at 90... documented at the time in Guiness Book of Records as the world's oldest degree achiever. She was featured on the front of the New York Times and on Good Morning America. Great health and began running around 10 years ago. Exercise regimen of 15 plus miles per day including run of 2-6 miles. As a good friend former football star at Michigan State astutely said to me "We have to recognize we're in the fourth quarter and the best we can hope for is overtime." We...(read more)
